 NUCLEOTIDE ANALOGUES + 

Nucleotide analogues: Drugs based on nucleotides that are chemically altered to inhibit production or activity of disease causing proteins. Maybe more stable and active than nucleosides.

Generally well tolerated. Active against HBV

Hydroxyurea (not approved for HIV therapy) Hydrea

500 mg twice daily

Bone marrow suppression, aphthous ulcers, hair loss, peripheral neuropathy, hepatotoxicity. Augments ddI and d4T and their toxicities. No direct antiviral effect. Used rarely due to reported toxicity.
