FULL
BLOOD COUNT (FBC)
The most common laboratory test is the full or
complete blood count (FBC). It examines the components of blood, including red
and white blood cells and platelets. Most test results are reported as amounts
in a sample of blood (for example, cells per milliliter) or as a
percentage.
All blood cells are made in the bone marrow, the
centre of large bones. Some medications or diseases can damage the bone marrow.
This can reduce the numbers of different types of red or white blood cells.
